How to install the Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe

Maxi-Cosi gives 3 ways to put it in the car, with the base and without it, so a taxi or a second car works without another base.

Steps retold from Maxi-Cosi's manual. The manual that came with your seat is the one to follow.

How to install the Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe in the car

Pick how you're putting it in. Each way is from the maker's manual.

Base with LATCH

Where it can go: Rear-facing only. Never in a seat with an active frontal airbag. Only on forward-facing vehicle seats, never on side- or rear-facing seats. The maker says children are safer in rear seating positions. Do not use the lower anchor belt and the vehicle belt at the same time; do not fasten two connectors to the same lower anchor bar.

  1. Unhook the lower anchor connectors from their storage spots on the base by pressing the red button on each.
  2. Loosen the lower anchor belt: push the button on the adjuster and pull the belt.
  3. Center the base in the chosen seat and thread the lower anchor belt through the base belt path, adjuster on the right side, without twisting it.
  4. Clip each connector (arrows facing up) onto the vehicle's lower anchors.
  5. Push the base down and back into the vehicle seat while pulling the belt tight in line with the belt path.
  6. Click the car seat onto the base and recheck the level line.

Check it before you drive

  • Hold the base at the belt path and push side to side: it should not move more than 1 in. (2.5 cm).
  • The level line must be parallel with the ground; redo the install if not (a tightly rolled towel or pool noodle under the front of the base only if necessary).
  • Pull up on the front corners of the car seat to make sure it is locked to the base.
  • Check the tightness often.

Retold from Maxi-Cosi manual (PDF). Your vehicle's manual also says which seats have LATCH anchors. When in doubt, a certified child passenger safety technician can check your install.

  4. Keep the carry handle upright and locked in the car.

The newborn insert

What Maxi-Cosi says about the insert

  1. Infant head support: make sure it never covers your baby's face.
  2. You can take the head support out for bigger babies by pulling it off the harness straps.
  3. Body pillow: undo the buckle, pull it through the slot in the pillow, then slide the pillow out from behind the harness straps.
  4. Harness covers: if they get in the way of placing the chest clip or of a snug fit on a small baby, take them off and store them until your baby is big enough.

The maker warns: When using the infant head support, make sure it does not cover your child's face in any way.
