Pick how you're putting it in. Each way is from the maker's manual.
Base with LATCH
Where it can go: Rear-facing only, on forward-facing vehicle seats with the seat back locked upright. Back seat preferred; never on a front seat with an active frontal airbag, and a front seat only if the vehicle manual allows it. LATCH only in positions the vehicle maker designates for LATCH with standard 11 in. anchor spacing. If the vehicle has an under-floor storage compartment, use the load leg there only if the vehicle maker approves.
1Pick a seat with LATCH, move the front seat all the way forward and make sure the vehicle seat back is locked upright.
2Pull the load leg out of its storage under the base (strongly recommended; if you cannot use it, Clek recommends a seat belt install instead).
3Hold each LATCH adjustment button and pull each connector out until it stops and locks.
4Push the base into the vehicle seat back until both connectors lock onto the lower anchors and both lock indicators turn from red to green.
5Press both adjustment buttons and push the base firmly against the seat back until it is snug and locked.
6Extend the load leg down until it touches the floor and lock it; the pressure indicator must turn green (extend one more position only if it stays red).
7Set the recline sled so the bubble sits in the range for your child's weight, then move the front seat back without touching the carrier.
Check it before you drive
Both LATCH lock indicators are green; base moves no more than 1 in. in any direction.
Load leg pressure indicator is green; never extend it further than needed.
Recline bubble is within the lines for the child's weight, checked on level ground; the sled is locked, not between positions.
Retold from Clek help article. Your vehicle's manual also says which seats have LATCH anchors. When in doubt, a certified child passenger safety technician can check your install.
The carrier on and off the base
Clicking it onto the base
1Lower the carrier onto the installed base.
2Push down on each side of the carrier to connect it.
3Look at the release handle: the red area on its side disappears completely when the carrier is attached.
4Lift up on the carry handle to check the carrier is secure.
5Lock the carry handle in the upright position.
The maker warns: If the red indicator on the release handle is visible, the carrier is not securely attached to the base.
Clek says this can happen in rare cases in high humidity, mainly on seats made before May 19, 2019. It does not affect how safe the seat is.
Check the date of manufacture on the underside of the carrier and the underside of the base.
Clek's help article has a video showing how to free the carrier from the base.
Once freed, install the carrier without the base, and contact Clek Customer Service with the dates, serial numbers and proof of purchase to ask for a replacement base.
The belt is probably pulled too tight before closing the panel.
Let a little slack back into the car's seat belt and try closing the belt tensioner again.
If it still will not close, try a different seat in the car or install the base with rigid LATCH instead.
A little side-to-side play between carrier and base is normal.
Gently lift up on the carrier to check both base attachment bars are latched.
Look at the release handle: it must not show red.
If both checks pass, the movement is acceptable.
A metal-on-metal sound over bumps is normal, according to Clek.
The Liing base contains a lot of metal for strength, and that is what you hear.
With a seat belt install, both belt tensioner lock indicators must be fully green.
Red or part red may mean the panel is not fully shut: push down firmly on it.
If they stay red, open the belt tensioner, let a little slack into the belt and close it again.
If they are still red, or the base moves more than 1 inch where the belt passes through, use a different seat or install with rigid LATCH.

Can I install the Clek Liing base with the seat belt instead of LATCH?+
Yes. Clek's manual gives steps for the base with LATCH and with the car's seat belt.

When do I use or remove the Clek Liing infant insert?+
The seat comes with the newborn support cushion already in place. It must be used for babies under 11 lb and whenever the tops of the shoulders are below the lowest harness slots.
