How to install the Maxi-Cosi Peri 180

Maxi-Cosi gives 3 ways to put it in the car, with the base and without it, so a taxi or a second car works without another base.

Steps retold from Maxi-Cosi's manual. The manual that came with your seat is the one to follow.

How to install the Maxi-Cosi Peri 180 in the car

Pick how you're putting it in. Each way is from the maker's manual.

Base with LATCH

Where it can go: Rear-facing only while driving; side-facing is only for putting the seat on the base and getting your baby in or out, never while the vehicle moves. Never in a seat with an active frontal airbag; only on forward-facing vehicle seats. Behind another vehicle seat it must touch that seat back or be as close as possible. Do not use the LATCH belt and the vehicle belt together.

  1. Unfold the load leg but do not extend it to the floor yet.
  2. Place the base flat on the vehicle seat and swivel the cradle to face you.
  3. With the belt lock-off closed, take the lower anchor belt out of storage and weave it in and out of the belt path.
  4. Attach the connectors (arrows up) to the vehicle's lower anchors.
  5. Push the base down and back into the vehicle seat while pulling the belt tight until both tension indicators turn fully green.
  6. Extend the load leg until it meets the floor, then lift the front of the base to lock it; it must be perpendicular to the floor.

Check it before you drive

  • Both belt tension indicators completely green.
  • The base should not move more than 1 in. (2.5 cm) side to side at the belt path.
  • Do not use the load leg if it does not reach the floor or on top of a floor storage compartment.
  • Park on level ground when installing.

Retold from Maxi-Cosi product page. Your vehicle's manual also says which seats have LATCH anchors. When in doubt, a certified child passenger safety technician can check your install.

The carrier on and off the base

Clicking it onto the base

  1. Turn the seat cradle on the base to side-facing (squeeze the rotation handle and swivel it toward you); the seat can only go on or off in this position.
  2. Line up the bar on the back of the car seat with the cradle.
  3. Push down on the front of the car seat to lock it into the cradle.
  4. Or tip the seat toward you with the bar just past the back of the cradle, then pull it toward you along the cradle until it clicks.
  5. Push down on the front and pull up on the carry handle to check it is locked, then rotate the seat to rear-facing until the indicator shows locked.

The maker warns: Use this seat only with a compatible Maxi-Cosi infant car seat base; a wrong base or a seat not securely attached can cause serious injury or death.
