How to install the Evenflo Shyft DualRide in the car
Pick how you're putting it in. Each way is from the maker's manual.
Base with LATCH
Where it can go: Rear-facing only. Do not use in the front seat of a vehicle with an air bag unless the air bag has been deactivated; the back seat is safest for children 12 and under and the center rear is generally safest if available. If installed directly behind a front seat, leave at least 1.5 in. (38 mm) between the car seat and that seat. Only on forward-facing vehicle seats with backs that lock in place, in vehicles with seat belts or lower anchors. Never install with a non-locking lap/shoulder belt (use a locking clip if the belt does not lock).
- With the car on level ground, take the LATCH connectors out of storage under the base and set the base on the vehicle seat.
- Pull the recline foot release handle and move the recline foot until the bubble is in the blue zone.
- Squeeze the handle on the LockStrong arm and pull it up to open.
- Clip the connectors onto the vehicle lower anchor bars until they click, and pull on them to be sure they are attached.
- Push the base firmly into the seat with your full weight while pulling the strap loop until it is snug.
- Put the extra strap back through the belt path opening (not under the LockStrong arm), then press the arm fully closed until it clicks and the indicator turns green; if it stays red, loosen the strap slightly and try again.
Check it before you drive
- Grab the base near the belt path and pull side to side and front to back: it should not move more than 1 in. (2.5 cm); if it does, open the LockStrong arm, tighten a little more and try again, or try another seat or method.
- The lock indicator on the LockStrong arm is green when fully closed.
- With the base, the bubble must be in the blue zone of the recline indicator.
Retold from Evenflo manual (PDF). Your vehicle's manual also says which seats have LATCH anchors. When in doubt, a certified child passenger safety technician can check your install.
The carrier on and off the base
Clicking it onto the base
- Keep the infant carrier on its stroller frame; it goes on the base together with the frame.
- Line up the carrier and stroller frame with the base.
- Lower them onto the base until you hear a click.
- Lift up on the carry handle to check it is locked.
The maker warns: Do not put the infant carrier on the base without the stroller frame. Always make sure the carrier and stroller frame are secured to the base.
Taking it off the base
- To take out only the carrier: squeeze the upper release handle while lifting the carry handle; the stroller frame stays on the base.
- To take out the carrier and stroller frame together: squeeze the lower release handle while lifting the carry handle.
- Lift clear of the base.

What Evenflo says about its bases and carriers, for a second car or an older base.
- The LiteMax base takes only LiteMax and SafeMax infant seats. Evenflo help article
- A LiteMax infant seat clicks into both the LiteMax and the LiteMax DLX bases, so either one works as a spare base. Evenflo help article
- The Gold SensorSafe SecureMax smart infant seat needs the SecureMax base. The LiteMax base does not fit it. Evenflo help article
The newborn insert
What Evenflo says about the insert
- The infant insert is required for babies weighing 3 to 6 lbs and optional above 6 lbs.
- It sits on top of the headrest cover.
- In the lowest headrest position, a seam at the bottom of the headrest cover lets the cover lie flat under the insert.
- The insert can be machine washed with the other soft goods (take out any foam pieces first).
When it won't sit right: the maker's answers
- Check the stroller wheels are fully folded and both wheels line up upright.
- If not, take the carrier off, unfold the wheels and fold them again.
- Check the strap between your baby's legs (the central front adjuster strap) isn't blocking the connection; roll it up with its elastic loop.
- Try clicking it into the base again.
- Listen for the click when the carrier goes into the base.
- Always lift up on the carrier handle to check it is secure.
- If it won't connect, refold the wheels and check the strap between your baby's legs is out of the way, then try again.
