How to install the Cybex Cloud Q

Cybex gives 4 ways to put it in the car, with the base and without it, so a taxi or a second car works without another base.

Steps retold from Cybex's manual. The manual that came with your seat is the one to follow.

How to install the Cybex Cloud Q in the car

Pick how you're putting it in. Each way is from the maker's manual.

Base with LATCH

Where it can go: Rear-facing only, in forward-facing vehicle seats, in a seating position the vehicle maker allows; never on a front seat with an active airbag. If all load leg requirements cannot be met, choose another seat or install the carrier without the base; if necessary the base may be installed with the load leg folded up.

  1. Take the LATCH anchors out of storage and unfold the load leg from under the base.
  2. Position the base on a rear vehicle seat and adjust the leveling foot to the correct angle for your child's weight on the level indicator.
  3. Open the belt tensioning plate fully by turning the orange locking lever to OPEN and lifting the plate.
  4. Attach both LATCH connectors to the lower anchors until each clicks, and pull firmly to check.
  5. Push the base against the seat back and pull the LATCH strap tensioning loop until just snug; tuck the loose end under the base.
  6. Press the tensioning plate down with both hands until it locks (the orange lever turns to CLOSE by itself).
  7. Extend the load leg until the foot firmly touches the floor, locking it in the first hole that holds it firmly.

Check it before you drive

  • The base should not move more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the belt guides; if it does, open the plate, tension the LATCH strap a little more and try again.
  • If the plate will not lock, loosen the LATCH strap slightly.
  • Check the recline is still in the right range for your child's weight; if not, remove the base, adjust and reinstall.
  • There should never be space between the load leg foot and the floor, and the load leg should never push the base above the seat.

Retold from Cybex manual (PDF). Your vehicle's manual also says which seats have LATCH anchors. When in doubt, a certified child passenger safety technician can check your install.

The carrier on and off the base

Clicking it onto the base

  1. Make sure the handle is locked in the carry position.
  2. Lift the carrier by the handle and slide its attachment rod under the catch on the base.
  3. Rotate the foot end of the carrier down onto the base until it clicks; the green safety button pops out to show it is attached.
  4. Move the handle to the drive position.
  5. If the carrier is next to a car door or side panel, pull out the side impact protector (L.S.P.) on that side.
