The house, with its half-timbered façade and gently sloping roofs, had been abandoned in the 1920s and was a wreck when Cristina first saw it. But with Lorenzo's expertise and their shared passion for antiques, they saw the potential for a perfect family home. The exterior alterations were limited by local planning laws, but the original interior was remodelled to create a space that works year-round.
The house is filled with a mix of textures, colours, patterns, and decorations, with a focus on antiques and contemporary art. The 19th-century oak chimneypiece and overmantel mirror, carved with shells, crabs, fish, and marine miscellany, provide a focal point for the living room. A 1950s sofa in a Ralph Lauren floral pattern is teamed with a marble coffee table, and a Phillip Jeffries wallcovering is the background for lights and ceramic parrots.
The dining room features verre églomisé wall panels made by Arantxa Hergueta, a large rattan ceiling light, and bamboo chairs. The marble-topped dining table is from El Rastro flea market in Madrid. The house is filled with a mix of fabrics, furniture, and decorative objects sourced all over the world, with a focus on English country-house style.
